We’re all going on a bear hunt (walk)

On our holiday we went for a walk and whilst we were walking we found a cave… much to the disappointment of the Littlesheeps there was no bear but it got them thinking about the we’re all going on a bear hunt rhyme.

We're all going on a bear huntI’m guessing that most of the readers of this blog will have heard the “We’re going on a Bear Hunt” rhyme and lots probably have a copy of  the popular children’s book by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury – it is certainly a favourite in our house.

Children love the repetitive nature of the rhyme – ours often receite it whilst walking in the woods and really enjoy making all the sounds.

We’re all going on a bear hunt, We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to catch a big one. What a beautiful day! We’re not scared…

Uh-oh! Grass! Long wavy grass.

We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it… We’ve got to go through it!

Swish, swash, swish, swash

Uh-oh! Mud! Squelchy squelchy mud.

We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it… We’ve got to go through it!

Squelch, squelch, squelch, squelch

Uh-oh! A river! A cold cold river.

We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it… We’ve got to go through it!

Splish, splash, splish, splash

Uh-oh! A forest! A dark dark forest.

We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it… We’ve got to go through it!

Stumble-trip, stumble-trip, stumble-trip

Uh-oh! A cave! A spooky spooky cave.

We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it… We’ve got to go through it!

Tippy toe, tippy toe – ssshhhh!

GROWL!

Oh no! A bear! A very big bear!

Through the cave, tippy toe, tippy toe
Through the forest, stumble-trip, stumble-trip, stumble-trip
Through the river, splish, splash, splish, splash
Through the mud, squelch, squelch, squelch, squelch
Through the grass, swish, swash, swish, swash
Into the house, Up the stairs.
Forgot the door! Oh-no,
Down the stairs, Close the door,
Up the stairs, Jump into bed,
Pull the covers over your head…

I’m never going on a bear hunt again!

Why not go on a bear hunt of your own – let me know if you spot one!
