Today 21st March is World Down Syndrome Day and a friend of mine who has a gorgeous little girl with Down Syndrome posted this video on her facebook page so I thought I would share it with you to help raise awareness of Down Syndrome.
Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by the presence of an extra chromosome. It is not a disease and it is not a hereditary condition – it occurs by chance at conception. About one in every 1,000 babies born will have Down syndrome (about 750 babies are born with Down Syndrome in the UK each year). People with Down syndrome have varying degrees of learning disability, which may range from moderate to severe however many children with Down Syndrome are educated in mainstream schools with support.
