World Space Week

This week (4th-10th October) is World Space Week (as declared by the United Nations) to commemorate two events:

  • 4th October 1957: The launch of the first human-made Earth satellite (Sputnik) opening the way for space exploration
  • 10th October 1967:  The signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.

So here are five ideas to celebrate:

  1. Sing 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
  2. Make a model of the solar system
  3. Go outside at night and spot the stars
  4. Make space rockets
  5. Play with glittery playdough – add black food colouring to make the dough dark and then add glitter / confetti stars
